Great experience from the time we walked in the door! We are so grateful we transferred our very ill dog here, was diagnosed quickly and surgery was performed immediately. Dr. Morales and Dr. Jehn are the best! Highly recommend.

Absolutely the most professional, loving and understanding Docs and staff that I have ever seen. My 13 year old Chocolate Lab has been slowly developing Laryngeal Paralysis over the last year or so - he had a horrible attack when we were 500 miles away from home - his airway was paralyzed, he could not breathe - had to find and get treatment from three different emergency vets to get him home - as with most vets, our normal vet does not perform the tests or the surgery to correct this problem so I was sent to Capital - we were immediately taken into a private consultation room and seen by the kindest, most concerned Vet Tech that I have ever met - both docs that were going to be performing the tests and surgery then came in to talk to me, took the time to show me a video of exactly what was happening, the procedure to fix it and stayed with me until they had answered every question that I could think of. I am in awe and have a hard time finding the words to describe this practice. All I can say is that Dusty is my child, for personal reasons more so than most - I have had some pretty good doctors personally but I feel like Dusty has received equal or better treatment than I have ever received from a human doctor. They, without a doubt know what they are doing and appear to be busy because of it but they still take the time to give pet owners peace of mind, I have been called every day personally by the Doctor himself. They do not cut corners, they have the nicest staff around the clock and even a special "after hours" number that they encourage you to call for updates. I even received a text message with pictures of Dusty during his recovery. I will pick my baby up today or tomorrow, he is 13 now but still has a few good years in him - I will never be able to thank Capital enough for saving my baby's life.

I was devastated when I found out my German Shorthaired Pointer tore her CCL in her knee. She is show champion and has huge potential in the field. She is also a beloved pet and an important part of our family. Dr. Drygas examined her and took the time to explain the 3 types of procedures that could be done to restore my girl's knee and mobility. I consulted with two other orthopedic surgeons, one in AL and one in GA. Both surgeons highly recommended Dr. Drygas to do the surgery. The care, courtesy and compassion this veterinarian team has shown to me and my dog is what I would consider above and beyond. From the pre-op visits to the post-op care, calls and follow-up, the care and concern could not be more appreciated.

Thank you Dr. Drygas and staff of Capital Veterinary Specialist.

My cat was suspected of having lymphoma. I took him to see Dr. Walker. We decided on chemo. My cat had lost a lot of weight before starting chemo but his eyes was still clear, he still had energy and he would still eat by himself but just not as much as normal. Well after starting chemo I explained to Dr. Walker that his quality of life went down and he was throwing up more and wasn't eating. He would groan and he was restless. I had to syringe feed him. He told me that it wasn't the chemo that it was his disease progessing and that we had to be more aggressive with the chemo. He is the doctor so I listened to him. Big Mistake. 3 weeks after starting chemo my beloved cat is dead. I was never told the protocol about my cat using the same litter box as my other cats. I was given 4 pills of an anti nausea medication that was for dogs but was used off label for cats. I had to give my cat 1/2 a pill 1 x a day. I spoke to a technician later who told me my cat was not suppose to take it for more than 4 days. She said that's why they only prescribe 4 days worth. I was so confused by that. I told her that Dr. Walker had prescribed 8 days worth of pills. She didn't really reply to that. By this time my cat had already taken it for 6 days. The information concerning the litter boxes and pills was a little too later. Dr. Walker and his technicians always seemed in a hurry but the waiting room was always empty. I will never take any of my animals to this place again.

Thank you for your comment. We certainly look closely at all communications whether positive or negative. We would like to start off by echoing our concerns for the loss of your cat Dewey. We know how special he was to you and how much he is missed. Dewey was an exceptionally challenging case for three reasons. First, Dewey’s disease was very advanced and severe. He had been sick for 5 months prior to the evaluation and diagnosis by Dr. Walker. This meant that for 5 months the cancer was allowed to grow and develop into a large tumor burden. Second, chemotherapy is less effective at shrinking large tumor burdens because fewer cells are in the dividing cell cycle where cells are susceptible to chemotherapeutic drugs. Nevertheless, chemotherapy was Dewey’s best chance at life and, at that point, it was the only therapy option we had available – surgery and radiation therapy are ineffective with disseminated diseases. Third, limitations imposed on our care (refusal to pursue recommended diagnostic tests and timely follow up/repeat visits) compromised Dewey’s management because these were declined. Regarding the anti-nausea medication, although licensed for dogs it is commonly used in cats. In fact, most medications used in veterinary medicine are ‘off label’ and specifically labeled for human use. The reason for this is because the veterinary market for most of the drugs (besides anti-arthritic medications, heartworm etc.) is small. We apologize for any confusion that may have resulted from our communications. Factually, the instructions provided were correct; however, they were obviously not conveyed clearly. If there is confusion with written instructions, we are always available for phone consultation. Our technicians are all experienced and have worked in specialty medicine for a long time and can answer the concerns our pet owners have. Otherwise, they will ask a Board Certified specialist for clarification. Again, our deepest sympathy goes out to you for your loss. Please feel free to contact Dr. Walker to discuss any questions or remaining concerns you have.
